"Getting my basic certification was a lot like getting your learner driver's license. Having learned the rules of the road, hypnosis seemed pretty simple - in theory. But when I actually got into the driver's seat I soon discovered I was operating with more than a few limitations! At first, I felt discouraged. But I realized this is what I am here to do!

Biography: Wendie Webber

In 1984 Wendie was a single mother working as an office manager and bookkeeper for a local business. Changes and challenges in her personal life led her to embark upon a journey of personal self-discovery, spurred by a hunger to answer that all-too-common question: "Who am I and why am I here?" She began reading everything she could lay her hands on having to do with self-healing and spiritual development, studying, sifting, and looking for clues. Nutritional healing, dream analysis, tarot, numerology, A Course in Miracles, channeling and Jungian psychology are just a few of the topics that captured her interest. Sources for this kind of reading material in Nanaimo were limited at that time so feeding her hunger to learn required trips to Vancouver's Banyan Books, or Victoria's Sri Atman. Eventually, she started her own home-based business and in 1987 began publishing a monthly newsletter called "Channel-One", hosting various video night groups, and offering a small selection of books and tapes not available locally.
By 1988 her small business had grown into a fledgling spiritual center located on Northfield Road. Spiritwood Center featured a well-stocked and growing bookstore, as well as an herbalist, a reflexologist, and a spiritual psychologist. In addition to the regular video night groups, the center hosted workshops and self-healing groups such as the "L.I.F.E. (Love Is For Everyone) Project", a not-for-profit cancer support group. In 1991, Wendie moved the bookstore downtown to Bastion Street, and from there, Spiritwood Books took off, establishing itself as a hub for Nanaimo's holistic community.
One day, in 1993, Wendie spontaneously began to "run" energy in her hands. This experience prompted her to begin exploring energy-based healing approaches including Reiki, Touch for Healing, and Pranic Healing. Her experiences working with these methods would eventually lead her to into the field of energy psychology and meridian-based tapping techniques like E.F.T., S.E.T., and Hypno-Tapping.
Although the bookstore was proving itself a well-received and important contribution to the community, Wendie felt increasingly bogged down by the busyness of business. She wanted to get back to her quest for her own answers and felt consumed by the demands of serving other's needs while her own search languished. So in 1995 Wendie took a big breath and sold the bookstore.
It took a few years to catch up on her reading. Then, in 1999, while re-reading a book which explores the mind-body connection and research into age regression, she had what she now refers to as her "V-8 moment" "I realized what they were writing about was hypnosis! I felt like I had been struck by lightning and in that moment I just knew - that's what I want to do!"

By May of 2000, Wendie had obtained certification through the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association as a Hypnotist, Master Hypnotist, and Clinical Hypnotherapist - and she has never looked back. For nearly a decade Wendie has continued studies in many forms of hypnosis and the mind-body connection while practicing hypnotherapy from her home by-referral-only.
Wendie plunged into advanced training, travelling to study with some of the most influential modern-day hypnosis experts in the world. And now, in 2009, after a powerful 14 year journey, Wendie has re-emerged into the community as the founder of Mind Design Hypnosis in Nanaimo, BC, where she is a hypnotherapy practitioner, as well as teacher. The halls of her offices are adorned with an impressive array of certificates, a testimony to her quest for knowledge. And now, after having spent much of her life learning she is giving back by teaching advanced methods of therapeutic hypnosis to other hypnotherapists.
She continues to accept clients who are serious about healing and tapping into their own inner resources.
Often, people associate hypnosis with smoking-cessation and weight-loss since these are the areas most often advertised in the media. However, Wendie works on the premise that when you feel good about yourself, you naturally make healthy choices and behave in positive ways that are in alignment with who you truly are. She therefore focuses her areas of practice on healing one's inner self through regression hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis training.
"It's so much more than just self-change. There's the ripple effect, which can be massive. Change yourself and you literally change the world!"
